A trip to the Cham Sculpture Museum

On June 20th, 2019, I visited the Cham Sculpture Museum in Danang. Here’s my review of the trip.

I was very impressed by their fascinating sculptures. The Cham people were Hindoo, so it was no surprise that they made sculptures of Hindi gods like Visnu and Siva. Besides, there were sculptures of the Hanuman monkey, the Lion,… What impressed me the most was the Linga-Yoni. The Cham people worshiped Linga-Yoni, which was the reproductive system, a traditional linga-yoni ritual, one kind of Religion. I was very surprised that they worshiped the reproductive system because not many religions worshiped that, and even in some region, people aren’t allowed to talk about that.

Their sculptures could be the best sculptures I have ever seen. The details were very meticulous, and the faces were very emotional. I had never seen such beautiful sculptures like that. These sculptures could even be compared to Italian sculptures. Not just the sculptures, I also saw the Cham’s costumes. The Cham people often put long hair and wrapped in towels. The Cham people also had a variety of musical instrument. Most of them were similar to Vietnamese musical instruments. The Ginseng drum and the Saranai trumpets were indispensable instruments in the Cham’s traditional festival.

The Cham used to be a very big empire, however, because of the invasion of the Vietnamese, nowadays, there are only about 180 thousand Cham people in Vietnam. Protecting the Cham’s cultural heritage is very important. We must preserve and develop it so that it can last forever.

Finally, thank you all for reading and enjoy your day.

This's not me, he is my room-mate in Danang Swim Camp 2019
